VIP cashback
Cashback returns a share of a player's activity to them on a regular schedule. It is earned by holding a VIP level — there is nothing to opt into and no code to enter. Reach the level, and the payments start.
This is separate from a cashback campaign, which players join and which runs for a fixed period. Both can exist at once.
Switching it on
Management → VIP Club → edit a level → Pay cashback at this level
Every setting below belongs to that level. Two levels can pay on different bases, at different rates, on different days.
What the rate applies to
The single most important choice, because it changes who gets paid and how much.
| Basis | The player is paid a share of | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Wagering | Everything they staked | You want to reward volume, win or lose |
| Net cash | Deposits − withdrawals − current balance | You want to reward money that came in and stayed |
| Gaming loss | Stakes minus returns | You want to return a share of what they actually lost |
Wagering is the usual starting point, because it is also what decides the level — the ladder and its rewards then measure the same thing.
Net cash is the strictest: a player who deposits and immediately withdraws is paid nothing, and neither is one still holding their balance. Only settled deposits and withdrawals count — a pending withdrawal has not left the player's pocket.
How often it pays
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Weekly | Every week on the chosen weekday |
| Every two weeks | Every second week on the chosen weekday |
| Monthly | On the chosen day of the month |
A period runs from the last payout to this one, and always ends at the start of the payout day — a player is never paid for a day that has not finished. Consecutive periods meet exactly, so nothing is counted twice and nothing is missed.
Choosing the 31st is safe: in shorter months the payment moves to the last day.
Real money or bonus
Paid as real money % splits the award.
| Setting | Result |
|---|---|
| 100 | The whole award lands in the real balance |
| 0 | The whole award is issued as a bonus |
| 60 | 60% real, 40% bonus |
The real-money part is immediately withdrawable and carries no conditions. The bonus part is active straight away — the player earned it by playing, so there is no requirement to unlock it — but you set a wagering multiplier for turning it into real money. Whatever survives that requirement converts in full.
Minimum payout
Awards below this figure are skipped rather than paid, so a level does not generate a stream of payments too small to be worth anything. Leave it blank to pay whatever is calculated.
The figure is in the level's payout currency. Players paid in another currency (see below) use the minimum payout per currency table if you fill it in; with no entry for their currency there is no floor.
Which currency a player is paid in
Each player is paid in their own tier currency — the currency their wagering is counted in (see VIP levels). A level with INR and USD players pays two groups, each in its own currency, each from its own basis figures. The level's cashback payout currency is only the fallback for players who have no tier currency yet.
A worked example
Silver pays 5% of net cash, weekly on Mondays, split 50/50 with a 3× multiplier on the bonus half.
Over the week a player deposits 8,000, withdraws 1,000, and ends with 2,000 in their wallet.
| Net cash | 8,000 − 1,000 − 2,000 = 5,000 |
| Cashback at 5% | 250 |
| To the real balance | 125 — withdrawable immediately |
| As bonus | 125 — playable now, converts after wagering 375 |
On the following Monday the same calculation runs again over the new week.
What the player sees
The level's cashback rate and how often it pays appear on the VIP page in the player's own language. The figure shown is always the figure the platform will pay — it comes from the same settings the payout uses, so the two cannot drift apart.
Emails
Every payment raises a vip_cashback_paid event in Customer.io carrying the level, the currency, the basis and the amount it was calculated on, the rate, the total and its split between real money and bonus, and the period dates. Build the template on that event.
Mail is independent of payment: if Customer.io is unreachable the cashback is still paid, and only the message is missed.
Things worth knowing
Payments run once a day, shortly after midnight UTC. A level pays only on its own payout day, so most days it does nothing.
A retired level pays nothing. Players still attached to one receive no cashback until they move to a live level.
Changing a rate takes effect from the next payment. Periods already paid are not recalculated.
A player is paid once per period. If a payment run is interrupted and repeats, it will not pay the same period twice.
